Badger

16-gun brig-sloop

  • Bought in 1777 in Jamaica.
  • Sold in 1783.
  • Nelson commanded her from Dec 1778 - June 1779

Career:

  • Originally a North American merchant ship named Defence, she was bought by the British in Jamaica during the American Revolutionary War.
  • Nelson cruised with her for prizes in the Caribbean, but wasn't very successful.
  • Handed over command to Cuthbert Collingwood in June 1779.  This began a connection to Collingwood that would last until Nelson's death.
